Victoria has declared a State of Disaster.
Only the second time it has been declared and both occasions in 2020.
(Emergency Management Act 1986 (Vic) )
It has been a difficult year for all of us.
At Merricks Farm we always try to consider what’s best for our community.
It’s why we use our farm to grow produce and why we welcome you to our farm gate.
(we do like you to buy our goodies of course)
We will continue our contactless pick up from the farm gate for those who are within the 5km radius.
For those outside the stage 4 limit of 5km, visit our website to buy online. (www.merricksfarm.com.au)

We will be hunkered down on the farm for the next few weeks only venturing out for necessities. A good opportunity to prepare, plan and dream of the time when we can open our gates to you all and return to Boneo Market and our many regulars there.

We all want this to end so let’s all do our bit to push the numbers down to zero and ‘control’ this insidious virus in our beloved Victoria.
Stay safe, stay warm, stay in touch.

What's Happening?

What’s happening on Merricks Farm?? Citrus picking, that’s what!
Although it’s cold and damp the fruit is ripening and hanging on the trees like juicy jewels.

Marmalade is on the way! We had sold out of some varieties months ago.
Look out for this season’s launch of new stock along with tips for surprising ways to enjoy this family favourite.
Don’t forget to check out our ‘Winter Warmers’. We are feeling the chill of mid-winter now and a cosy beanie, finger-less gloves, mittens or a luxurious cowl could make all the difference. Why not indulge yourself or a friend?
Keep safe, keep warm!

Reflecting

Here at Merricks Farm we spend these quiet winter days working in the garden preparing for Spring. Weeding, composting, preparing and feeding our soil. (we love horse manure)
Winter harvest is in full swing. The citrus fruit is almost ready, broccoli and our mini cauliflower have been great this year and the rhubarb, superb!
Along with all the good things there are of course the odd calamities we tend not to reveal. They mainly involve pesky rabbits or parrots and cockatoos.
The evenings that seem to come on so early, provide time for spinning and knitting and general reflection. We plan for our 2020 ‘Bites and Bubbles’ open day.
Goodness knows when this will happen. It is not possible to plan ahead with certainty. We can however, dream, plan menus, and new products.
As the Covid 19 virus continues to impact lives we realise how much we took for granted. Our thoughts go out to our fellow Victorians especially those in lockdown.
We have become very aware of the importance of continuing to follow through with all advice from the health authorities and of keeping in mind those in our community who may need a little help or simply a phone call now and then.
Thank you to all our regulars who order online and use contactless pick up from us. We appreciate your support.
To our Borneo Mkt. customer who had to wait for raspberry vinegar, we are holding some in stock just for you.

Keep warm, keep safe, keep in touch

Winter Warmers

While we have all enjoyed the beautiful calm, sunny days of the past week our mornings have all been sub 5 degrees and our late afternoons full of that damp chill to the bone as soon as the sun dips behind the trees.
Thermals on we venture out to do our chores.
In the evenings by the fire I have been indulging my love of all wool crafts. Carding, blending, spinning or just lovely, relaxing knitting and crochet.
Check our Winter Warmers section for some of the results. The items are updated regularly to replace those that have sold.
Keep watching, I might include some felting in the future.
Easy to buy online, contact free collection or simple to post.
Anything to keep us looking good and winter warm.
Keep safe! Keep warm! Keep in touch!

Winter

Picture
Winter has arrived with white frost on the ground here on June 1st to remind us.
Perhaps a more pleasant reminder was the
Liculia (liculia gratissima) bursting into flower on that same day.
A beautiful evergreen shrub to 3mtrs. with glorious scented flowers.
Look for a limited number of plants available from our farm gate in October.
We have been busy in the kitchen these past few weeks, preparing small quantities of some seasonal pickles and chutneys for orders.
It is also marmalade season and along with our regular varieties we have whipped up Yuzu marmalade! The Yuzu is a Japanese citrus and makes quite a scrumptious marmalade. An essential for the breakfast table and an absolute must on any cheese board.
Check out our Relishes, Chutneys, Condiments and Jam, Jelly, Marmalade sections. You might be lucky and find a jar!
Don’t run out of your favourite Merricks Farm goodies, give us a call or email and make a time to call in to our farm gate for a no contact collection.
Keep warm! Keep safe! Keep in touch!

Busy at the Farm

Picture
At this time of year in the hinterland it's all about preparing, preserving and freezing. Apples are at their best, and pandemic aside, it is the busiest time of the year on the farm.
We've loved many of our customers placing their orders on line and picking them up at the farmgate.
We miss seeing you all at Boneo Market and our on regular farmgate days.
These extraordinary times will pass.
A callout to everyone who has travelled distance to come an and collect their goods, and a special note to one of our regular Boneo Market customers, your Raspberry vinegar is here.
Enjoy the apples while they're fresh! Keep safe, keep in touch.
